Morden Players Matters
I would like to start by thanking Mike and Rachel Capay for being such generous hosts for our barbecue this month. It was such a lovely relaxed afternoon with wonderful food and a chance to catch up with friends... and what is more, the sun shone! It couldn’t have been better. As this was a members only event there is a chance some of you missed out because you haven’t got around to paying your membership yet! Morden Players membership is £12 per adult, £22 for a family and £5 for juniors. Remember you must be a member to be involved in productions. Please send cheques (payable to The Morden Players please) to our membership secretary, Jenny Elder at The School House, Hay Street, Steeple Morden.
You don’t have to be a member to be on our newsletter distribution list, but I am still trying to tidy it up. If you didn’t do it last month can I ask you to spare a moment to reply to this email to let me know if you wish to remain on the list – or if you know of anyone else who would like to receive the newsletter, that will be much appreciated.
First off… a plea for help with
Black Fabric
Those of you who get involved in the technical side of things will know that the blacked out areas around the stage during performances are board covered with black fabric… and ours are in need of refurbishment. We have the fabric, we have the measurements but what we need is someone with an industrial or semi industrial sewing machine who would be willing to do a bit of construction, nothing complicated just a bit heavy duty. Please get in touch with one of the committee if you feel you might be able to help. Thank you!
Steeple Morden Harvest Fair – Saturday 17th September
As usual, the Morden Players will be running the beer tent and in addition this year, in honour of Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary, we will be performing a short Shakespearian inspired sketch, written by Jim Prothero. We have some volunteers who are willing to dress up and join in the fun but there is always room for more. If you would like to don an Elizabethan costume for the afternoon to drum up support for the sketches, as well as generally for the Players or maybe you could help with the bar or take part in the sketch then please contact Vikki Thorp at vikkithorp1@gmail.com
Play Reading – Charley’s Aunt – Friday 30th September
We will be hosting a play reading of Charley’s Aunt on Friday 30th September at Gina and Stewart’s home – 49 Hay Street, Steeple Morden from 7.30 pm. There is a synopsis of the play below for anyone interested but this is primarily a social evening and there is no obligation to audition or take part in the play if you come along for the evening. You can join in or listen, it is just an informal get together… and completely free! We will provide nibbles but please bring your own drinks. Can you let Gina know (textiles@ginaferrari.co.uk) if you would like to come. Thank you!

Charley’s Aunt 16th, 17th, 18th February 2017
Charley and Jack love Amy and Kitty. Amy is going away, and Charley thinks he may miss his chance to ask for her hand. Then he discovers that his aunt, a Brazilian woman he has never met, is coming for lunch. How fortuitous! Now the aunt can chaperone while the boys ask the girls to marry them. Naturally, things don't go as planned. Donna Lucia, the aunt, is late, and their friend, Lord Fancourt Babberley (Babbs ) shows up in drag. They persuade him to pretend to be Donna Lucia, and a wild afternoon of mistaken identity, young love, old love, angry uncles, and one beautiful, exotic aunt ensues. In the end, just as it looks like Uncle Stephen is going to ruin everything, the real Donna Lucia steps in and graciously puts an end to the madness. All the lovers end up together and happy, except for Uncle Stephen, who was starting to fall in love with Babbs!
